The Power of Combining DISC & Motivators Assessments

Self-awareness and understanding interpersonal dynamics are essential components of personal and professional development. Two popular tools that aid in these areas are the Motivators Assessment and the DISC Assessment. Though both are designed to enhance self-awareness, they focus on different aspects of personality and behaviour, providing unique insights into what drives individuals and how they interact with others.

Motivators Assessment

Focus: The Motivators Assessment centres on internal drivers and values. It helps individuals understand what propels their actions, decisions, and overall satisfaction in life.

Purpose: The assessment identifies seven key motivators: aesthetic, economic, power, individualistic, altruistic, regulatory, and theoretical. By uncovering these internal drivers, individuals can gain a clearer understanding of what motivates them.

Benefits:

  • Aligning Career Choices and Activities: Helps individuals select careers and activities that resonate with their personal values.
  • Enhancing Job Satisfaction and Personal Fulfillment: By aligning work with intrinsic values, individuals can achieve greater satisfaction and fulfilment.
  • Informed Decision-Making: Aids in making decisions that are congruent with one’s core values, leading to more satisfying outcomes.

DISC Assessment

Focus: The DISC Assessment focuses on behavioural styles and communication preferences, categorizing behaviour into four main types: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness (DISC).

Purpose: This tool helps individuals understand their behaviour in various situations and how they interact with others, thereby improving communication and teamwork.

Benefits:

  • Improving Communication and Teamwork: Enhances the ability to communicate effectively and work well in team settings.
  • Understanding and Adapting to Others: Facilitates understanding of others’ behaviours and how to adapt one’s approach accordingly.
  • Enhancing Leadership Skills: Aids in developing effective leadership and conflict resolution abilities.

Key Differences

Aspect of Personality:

  • Motivators: Focuses on internal drivers such as values and intrinsic motivations.
  • DISC: Focuses on external behaviour and interactions in different contexts.

Application:

  • Motivators: Useful for career planning, personal fulfilment, and aligning goals with personal values.
  • DISC: Useful for improving interpersonal relationships, communication, team dynamics, and leadership effectiveness.

Outcome:

  • Motivators: Provides insights into what makes an individual feel satisfied and fulfilled.
  • DISC: Provides insights into how an individual behaves and how to interact more effectively with others.

Complementary Use

While the Motivators Assessment and DISC Assessment serve different purposes, they can be used together for a comprehensive understanding of oneself and how to navigate both personal and professional environments effectively. Knowing what motivates you (Motivators) and how you behave (DISC) can provide a well-rounded approach to personal development and improving interactions with others.
