Creating Effective Meeting Agendas Based on DISC Styles

Meetings can be a challenge, especially when different behavioural styles are in the room. Understanding DISC styles helps ensure that everyone is engaged and productive. Here’s how each DISC style can influence and improve meeting agendas.

D-Style (Dominance)

D-Styles want meetings to be fast, efficient, and task-focused. However, they should be cautious about setting overly aggressive agendas. Ensure enough time for discussions and consider if more than one meeting is needed to fully explore solutions.

I-Style (Influence)

I-Styles enjoy collaborative discussions and a focus on the big picture, often incorporating social interaction. To keep these meetings productive, establish a clear agenda and assign someone to guide the conversation back to the main goal when needed.

S-Style (Steadiness)

S-Styles prefer structured, predictable meetings that encourage input from all attendees. Ensure there is time for reflection and allow for deviations in the conversation that might lead to valuable insights. Consensus is key, but be flexible when needed.

C-Style (Conscientious)

C-Styles thrive on detailed, formal agendas with specific time allocations for each item. However, they need to remain open to longer discussions and unexpected insights that might arise, even if it means deviating from the schedule.

Conclusion

Before finalising your agenda, reflect on whether your DISC style influenced it. Adjust where necessary to meet the needs of your team and the topics. This small adjustment can lead to more successful and well-rounded meetings.
